What is a Flash component?

Components are pre-defined symbols which you can add to your Flash movies. Because components are self-contained, the work has all been done for you. Flash Junction components include configuration and ActionScript options which allow you to create a huge range of effects quickly and easily.

What are the system requirements?

Flash Junction components are compatible with either Flash MX2004 and Flash8, or both, but not with FlashMX or earlier versions of Flash.

How do I install a component?

Flash Junction components are packaged as .mxp files. You will need the Macromedia Extension Manager to install them. This should already be installed when you install Flash. However, if you do not have it installed, you can download the Macromedia Extension Manager from the Macromedia website here. Once you have installed the Extension Manager, simple double click the .mxp file for your component, and follow the instructions.

How do I use the components?

Once you have installed a component, the next time you launch Flash, you will see it in the components panel. To open this panel, press CTRL+F7. Components you have installed will be listed in this panel. To use a component, simply drag its name onto the stage

How do I configure a component?

When you select a component on the stage, you will see a configuration panel in the properties panel. To make sure this is open, select Window->Properties (Ctrl+F3) For more complex components, you may need to launch a separate configuration dialog by pressing a button in the properties panel instead.

Can I see what my component will look like before publishing my movie?

Yes. All Flash Junction components include a live preview, which will be updated whenever you make any changes to the configuration options. You will therefore be able to see how your components is going to look like while you are still working on your movie - this helps you to decide on placement and colour schemes.

Can I use more than one component in the same movie?

Yes you can. There is no limit to the number of components you can use in a movie - whether you want to use several different components, or have multiple copies of the same component. However, for some of the more complex effects, bear in mind that having too many components running at once could cause your movie to slow down, the same as for any other type of scripts.

Once I purchase a component, are there any limitations on using it?

You can use Flash Junction components as often as you like, in as many movies & websites as you like. However, if you are planning to embed the component in a DVD or CD-ROM, there may be special requirements - see the EULA for more details.

What versions of Flash are the components compatible with?

Check the product details to see which version of Flash you need to run a component. The version will be displayed on the product screen. Some components take advantage of new features of Flash 8, and therefore will not run with previous versions. However, if a component is compatible with Flash MX2004, it will run in Flash 8 as well.

Can you produce customised components?

If you have a requirement for a particular component, we will be happy to discuss this with you. For customised components, please contact us on custom@flashjunction.com
